Dancer on the San Diego Air Waves

I would have never guessed that this is how my (Adelaides') first appearance on the radio would have come about. Being on the air was quite an experience. We met up with Chuck Schiele, the producer of the Waves album, and Greg Vaughan, the brains behind the sitar, and  sat in front of microphones speaking live and taking calls from listeners. As a dancer I found it intriguingly different to be on the speaking end of promotion. All I had was my shimmy belt to hint that there was a belly dancer behind the speakers. The studio was full of movement and fun as we even recorded our silly expressions. On top of everything, I heard my voice extend across San Diego’s radio speakers, which is a surprise because that is the only Danyavaad song I have backup singing parts to. Strange how you never know where one journey will lead.

“Waves” is a CD that encompasses a compilation of OB musicians. Danyavaad has its latest track, Dancer on the Waves, on this album and I sing backup. Though almost all of the band members have been “OBshans” at one point, I’m happily holding down the anchor below the waves of Ocean Beach. And here in OB we are celebrating the release of this artful album Friday, July 17th at the Masonic Temple, located at the corner of Santa Monica St. & Sunset Cliffs Blvd. This is going to be a great event, and has already taken myself, Greg Vaughan and Chuck Schiele onto the Local Pile segment of radio station 94.9. I am so excited for Friday! Doors will open at 6pm and performances start at 8 pm. This concert is free and local venders will be selling food and drinks.

"Track 9 gives us Dancer on the Waves from the Shimmy Sisters & Danyavaad, or is it Danyavaad & Shimmy Sisters? Either way it’s a blend of cool 60’s O.B. style and early Volunteers era Jefferson Airplane complete with Vinnie Bell choral sitar throughout." - obrag.org
