Danyavaad and The Shimmy Sisters did their first show on January 28th, 2006. They then went on to perform over 100 shows in the next 13 years at restaurants, clubs, theaters, cruise ships, music festivals, and bellydance conventions. Audiences in California, Arizona, Nevada, Texas, Florida, Illinois and Mexico witnessed their unique world fusion rock and bellydance extravaganza. They also appeared on KUSI News, America’s Got Talent, The Real Housewives Of Beverly Hills, and in the award winning short film Anything But Frogs.
After performing their final show in October 2019, the six members each went off on their own journeys of self-expression and personal growth. Whenever asked if the group was done, they would reply “We are family. We are just on a break. We will be back.”
At the end of 2025 the group was inspired to reform at the request of the Shimmy Sisters father Hal Marcus. On March 14, 2026 the group did a sold out show at the Sunset Parlor in El Paso, Texas. Performing original songs from March Of The Gypsies (2008) and Nine Levels Of Bliss (2014), this event motivated them to keep the momentum going with more shows and work towards a third album.
So now, they will do their first San Diego show in seven years at Tango Del Rey on Sunday, August 30. Doors 6pm/Show 7pm. Greg, Gabriel, Sandy, Oren, Leilainia, and Adelaide will be joined by several other performers for what promises to be a magical night.
